If Modernisation of the NHS, being Patient-led, or Commissioning
is on your agenda, or you are simply trying to improve performance in
the NHS, then you will find this model useful.
We would like to take you on a short journey. By
following this short sequence of web pages you will get a perspective
on what makes the patient-led NHS work and a strong feel for how we
help clients achieve that.
We have built a roadmap for this journey. It is
based upon work we have done in the NHS over the years, together with
input from some experienced NHS professionals (about which more later). Lets begin... (Scroll
down to see the roadmap and for more details)
Overall
objective: You
can see from this high level framework that the overall objective is
a Patient Led NHS. One that has a consistent brand and funds comprehensive
healthcare, free at the point of need.
The patients and
public: Of course the public want to be convinced
that the NHS provides good value. When they use the NHS they expect
to be treated as an individual, rather than as a cog in the system,
and be given consistent care, no matter where is best for them.
Of course the agenda of health improvement will make a dramatic difference
to NHS costs and patient life expectancy. So they will also say that
they want to remain healthy and be helped to stay so.
The Department of Health
and Politicians: The
central government agenda dominates NHS thinking. They want the
NHS to modernise and also demonstrate they are modernising, whilst operating
with effective governance.
Financial
consideration: At the same time, all the players, need
to demonstrate either financial prudence and deliver cost effectively,
or if in the commercial sector, be allowed to make a profit.
Commissioning and delivery:
There are two areas we shall explore
in more detail: The commissioning of healthcare services and the
provision of those care pathways in the most effective, modern, integrated
and caring manner. We shall look at both what needs to be delivered
but also the enablers that help these two critical areas become effective.
In slide 2 we explore the demands
of the public and patients on the NHS in more detail.
